| | | | How did you first get your start in the Sports Industry? | I have always been a sports fanatic. I grew up playing multiple sports throughout collage so earning a living in the sports industry seemed to be a perfect fit. Before Graduating from Arizona State University, I completed an internship with a sports marketing company and I was hooked. | | What Educational Background and Professional Experience did you have before you started your Career in Sports? | I graduated college with a degree in Marketing. | | In which Marketplace Segment of the Industry do you work? | Sporting Good Suppliers / Consumer Products | | What do you feel is the current state of your particular Marketplace Segment? … Future Trends? | The current state of the Golf GPS marketplace that I focus on has consistently grown over the last 36 months. The industry is trending upward at a faster pace during the last 12 months. A couple of reasons for this trend is that GPS is becoming more and more utilized in everyday life, with almost all new vehicles equipped with GPS navigation systems, recreation enthusiasts’ utilizing GPS for directional assistance, even cellular phones being able to utilize GPS as a tracking device, GPS is becoming more of a need to have vs. a nice to have. That carries over to the golf course and customers are expecting the system to be installed on the carts. We have also seen a growth in our sales due to the golf course operators becoming more dynamic and entrepreneurial as it relates to the marketing of there facilities. These days golfers are not just looking for a place to golf, they are looking for an enriching experience to spend there entertainment dollar. Golfers have so many choices these days with so many golf courses populating there cities, the golf course must offer more than just golf. Golfers are looking to receive that “Member treatment at a daily fee price”. | | What do you look for in the right candidate? | Drive, “can do attitude”, and passion. | | What suggestions do you have for those looking to start and/or build on their Career in Sports? | I would suggest that you find a field that you have passion for first. After it is all said and done, you must love what you do every day. If you do not love what you do every day, the compensation does not matter. | | Any additional comments about the Industry, Professional Development and/or SPORTS CAREERS? | | I do not believe I have ever seen a site like SPORTS CAREERS, where someone can search for opportunities in the sports industry and connect with individuals that have the same interests. This site allows for job search, candidate location, networking, and most of all a place to effectively communicate with others about particular topics and continue to grow our knowledge base about the industry. |
