Managing Director, Broadcast Technology - NASCAR

    Overview:
Directing information and technology systems management, budgeting, strategic and tactical panning, production and post-production technical operations....
    Description:
    BACKGROUND:

In 1947, William France Sr. captured lightning in a bottle when he established the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing...known today as NASCAR. As the sanctioning body’s first President, France Sr. built two “superspeedways” (Daytona International and Talladega) for the race fans. Today, NASCAR has three (3) national racing series, four (4) regional racing series, one (1) local racing series, and two (2) international racing series which combined sanction over 1300 races at over 100 tracks across the US, Canada, and Mexico. The sport has some of the most recognizable names associated in sports culture of yesterday and today: The Petty Family (Lee, Richard, Kyle), Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, the Earnhardt’s (Dale Sr. and Dale Jr.), Darrell Waltrip, Bill Elliott, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, and Carl Edwards.

NASCAR has over 75 million fans and is the #2 rated regular season sport on television and is broadcasted through its partners: FOX, TNT, ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, SPEED, and DIRECTV. In 2007, NASCAR signed a deal with Sirius Satellite Radio to broadcast all Nextel Cup, Nationwide Series and Craftsmen Truck Series races on one dedicated channel. This channel is the only 24/7 year-round dedicated station for NASCAR. A recent study showed NASCAR fans consume more then six (6) hours of NASCAR media each week through TV, Radio, and Internet.

The sport has seen exponential growth in the last few decades. However, the culture of the fans, teams, and drivers has stayed the course. NASCAR was built on traditional values which it still maintains today. To many of the fans of NASCAR it is not just a sport; it is a way of life. NASCAR has been able to take their culture and integrate it into mainstream entertainment as evidenced by the success of last year’s movie, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. The passion of their fans and a chance for the rest of America to view NASCAR in a different light led the movie to become the #2 highest grossing comedy of all time.

In 2007, NASCAR announced the creation of NASCAR Media Group, a merger of NASCAR Images, NASCAR Digital Entertainment and other affiliated content groups. NASCAR Media Group is the rights management, content production, distribution and entertainment company designed to grow exposure, media and content opportunities for the entire sport, while also helping to serve the public r
