Equipment Suppliers | | | | Sales in retail, most importantly fitness equipment, are driven by a variety of factors, including the economy, growing consumer awareness of the value of exercise, the growth of health club memberships and the prices for equipments that are set forth by distributors, like Sears, which has become a major distributor of home exercise equipment. Demographic and social trends favor the fitness movement, which ultimately increases millions of customers to purchase equipment for their homes. Fitness equipment manufacturers serve two distinct markets: home and institutional. The home market is the largest, representing about 80% of the total market, and has tripled since 1990. Retail stores tend to hold the middle ground in terms of price, quality and service, and they too are beginning to expand their selection and, in some stores, hire specialists to sell the equipment. | | | |
